The Winners of the Week

An event such as the Suzuki Nine Queens wouldn’t be complete without reliving all of the excitement of the week and rewarding those involved during the legendary gala dinner. Using the peer-review system, all photos and athlete performances were judged by the photographers and the athletes themselves, ensuring that only the best were awarded prizes. Right off the bat, the mood was very festive, ensuring a good time for everyone involved.

The three invited photographers, Flo Breitenberger, Dasha Nosova, and Ilanna Barkusky collected a variety of images throughout the week and each submitted 2 photos for the following categories: ‘Best Action Shot’,Best Creative Angle’, ‘Best Black and White Photo’ and ‘The Most Unreasonable’.

For the athletes, the following categories were up for grabs: ‘Best Style’, ‘Best GoPro Moment’, and ‘Ruler of the Week’.

Photographer Awards
For the first time in Nine Queens history, the Best Action Shot was a tie between all three invited photographers thanks to their incredible shots. Because only one winner could be chosen, their second photo options were taken into account, awarding Dasha Nosova the prize for this category. Thanks to the photo she took of Kjersti and Emma flying over the kicker from inside the gap, Dasha won herself a sweet Suzuki special edition Nine Queen surfboard.

Meanwhile, the Best Creative Angle went to Flo Breitenberg for his photo of a skier hitting the kicker while using a snow-globe as a lens. For this great shot, Flo was awarded a Suzuki special edition Nine Queen surfboard to take on his next trip.

Best Illumination went to the youngest photographer of the group, 21-year-old Ilanna Barkusky. Her photo of Kjersti during the sunrise session was definitely a crowd pleaser and also won her a surfboard to use when she heads back to Vancouver.
